GEORGE.

Stitching is therapy. That is why I decided to make a portrait of George Floyd.

I am not sure where this quote originated and I’m paraphrasing, but it went something like this; “When he called for his mother, he summoned all mothers". I thought that beautifully articulated the sorrow many of us felt. While there have been so many others before George, I think the world was quiet enough to hear and feel the full impact.

There were very few reference photos of George. The main photo that was available was quite dark, especially the eyes, so I enjoyed adding some special touches.

I loved capturing the details of his beard and stubble on his cheeks. His lips had so many beautiful layers of colors.

His eyes were darkly shadowed in the photo so I enjoyed adding the highlights which really brought them to life.

This piece took 24 hours to complete. It was created with DMC cotton threads on unbleached cotton muslin. It measures 4.5 inches tall and 3.75 inches at the widest point.

If you know of anyone who would like to purchase George, please email me. I would like to donate all the profits to the black art future fund and/or Chelsea’s charity.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hope you are all staying safe and strong out there!

Warmly,

Pam
