LOVE YOUR MOTHER

I guess I’ve been feeling uneasy these days, as a lot of us have. The pandemic in combination with the fires are so concerning. The air quality here has been rather poor lately so I have been staying inside even more. Some days the air smells like a campfire and my throat feels dry and sore plus the smoke is visible. It obscures the view of the mountains. There have been a few days of ash raining down and blanketing everything.

Fires can be the earth’s way of cleaning out the forests making room for new growth so I try to feel positive about that but I do feel that the heat is accelerating at an abnormal and scary pace and that we are experiencing some really frightening weather events all over the world.

I have been trying to do more (even if it’s just little things) to do my part to help. I feel like even the tiny little bits help!

This is the sentiment that has inspired my next portrait:

It’s our beautiful Earth.

This was far more complicated than I thought it would be but I really enjoyed every moment. It is really beautiful to meditate on the earth and break it down into different parts.

The clouds were made with lots of very loose french knots and bullion knots. The picture does not do them justice. They are so much fluffier in real life.

You can see some of the bullion knots at the bottom here.

I added a metallic paint around the perimeter which looks so reflective in the picture but is more subtle in person. I played with the idea of adding some dried flowers. I love flowers on a black background. They really pop. Still experimenting and wondering if I should embroider some florals or add some tiny sparkly stars.

I hope where ever you are on this giant big blue marble that you are safe, healthy and feeling loved!

Thanks for stopping by,
