MJ AND THE LAST DANCE

I recently watched THE LAST DANCE on Netflix. I am not a sports fan of any kind but I have always enjoyed the excitement of a live game. I had heard wonderful things about this special so I decided to watch and I was totally hooked throughout the whole thing!

It was the story of the last season the Bulls played. They flash back to each of the player’s lives as well as the owner and coaches to bring the audience up to the present day, then take you through the last season. It was such an amazing portrait of all the variables it takes to form a successful team and is also loaded with lots of behind-the-scenes drama and humor. LOVED IT!

I love watching someone spend a lifetime mastering their craft and Micheal Jordan just blew me away (as he does everyone!).

I was so moved by the grace of his body as he played, like a PERFECTLY choreographed dance. I can’t wait to see a live basketball game sometime!

It must be amazing to feel that kind of a mind-body connection. That is what inspired this next portrait.

I chose this portrait because I loved the angle and the expectant look on Micheal’s face as he gets ready to shoot.

I chose a sheer background fabric. It kind of resembled a net.

The most time consuming part of this portrait was, by far, his arms. They are so long and filled with curves and color variations!

One of my favorite parts of this portrait is the placement of his hands on the basketball. You can just picture it spinning out of his hands and slamming right into the hoop.

I really enjoyed working on the pop of color of his wrinkly jersey.

It was tricky to work on the sheer background. I had to be really careful with how I knotted the back and do a lot of thread trimming so the it wouldn’t show through from the front.

If you are looking for an uplifting special to hunker down and watch, I highly recommend THE LAST DANCE! Great soundtrack too!
