STITCH CHALLENGE WEEK 3

This week’s challenge was created by Emily Tull. For this challenge, you need to take a photo of your eye and use that as a reference to sketch and then embroider your eye. It could be someone else’s eye, or even the eye of a pet.

I photographed and sketched my eye onto a piece of cotton muslin.

i started using very dark brown thread to work on the eyelashes. There is a video Emily Tull created to show you how to use the stem stitch to create a curve for the eyelash.

I got so completely lost in this project I didn’t even stop to take progress shots. I think it was really supposed to more of an outline of the eye but I got so curious and could not stop myself. It was challenging to figure out how to handle the reflection. Inside the reflection is my son’s silhouette taking the photo.

One of the things I found so fascinating about this project is how foreign my own eye looked to me. I really had no idea that is what it looked like. At some point, I guess I will have to do my own portrait….scary.

I was so inspired by that project, I decided to paint my eye, as well.

Well, I hope this inspires you to try something new!! Creativity begets creativity. I feel like it really spills over into everything else. Creativity cross training!

Thanks for stopping by!

Warmly,
