QUEEN'S GAMBIT

My next portrait subject was a recent show I watched and just fell in love with. It hooks you right from the beginning and never lets you go until the end. The mood, costumes, soundtrack, acting, and writing were just perfect. I really tried to savor it because it was a short series and, frankly, I just didn’t want it to end!!!!!

It is BETH HARMON from the Queen’s Gambit! So fantastic.

As soon as I started watching this show, I knew I wanted to create a portrait of the leading character who is just so gorgeously flawed and only makes you love her more!

These little green pills were a big part if this series.

The eye color of this actress was so intriguing. I had to look at multiple pictures of her to figure out what color they were. They seemed to be different in every photo so I added a combination of different colors of thread with a dark outline around the edge.

I knew I wanted her on a chess board. I created the board pattern using the satin stitch. LOTS of satin stitch.

Of course I had to include the queen. I gave it a nice bow, a little wink to the fashion which was SO great!

I added some sparkly highlights to her hair.

It was a great challenge to complete the shadows on her neck and sweater but I just loved working on this piece. I think she is such a unique and lovely subject. I completed this while watching the last episode which was so satisfying. I was SO SAD to see this end!
