TOUCHES OF GRAY

My next portrait has been requested a few times and with that all that multi colored facial hair, I couldn’t wait to take a stab at it.

SO. MUCH. FACIAL. HAIR.

It is the legendary Jerry Garcia. I am always fascinated by anyone who can seemingly commandeer their own life, almost as if they just willed themselves into fame and fortune. Jerry created a whole community that loyally followed and adored him, all while doing the thing he loved the most.

He continues to live on with a legacy of fans that still enjoy the lifestyle and music. Pretty amazing.

One of the things I liked so much about this portrait was how natural it was. His hair is not “coiffed” in any way as far as I can tell. There is no color, styling products, or gels. It makes me think he just hopped out of the shower and let it air dry. I love the freedom of that. , which is kind of what he represented.

I loved all the colors of facial hair, untamed and moving in different directions. My favorite part was the twinkle in his eyes.

A surprisingly small palette went into making Jerry.

What a fun project. Thanks for joining me in my portrait making adventures.

Warmly,

Pam
