To follow up on my two part tutorial on stumpwork ( a way of adding dimension to your embroidery), I made a little Valentine project using the stumpwork technique. I made some decorative napkins which could be hung in the house as decor, given along with some candy, or used as cocktail napkins.
If you want to try, here is what you will need:
Cotton square napkins. - I got these at the dollar bin at target.
White felt hearts - I cut hearts by folding the felt and drawing the half heart on the crease, then cutting it out (remember how you did this in school when you were little?)
Six stranded embroidery thread.
Scissors
Beads (optional) .
I did the same thing to the second heart but this one I made the satin stitch horizontal and painted some candy hearts on it. I stitched little messages on top of the hearts.
That’s it. You could apply this technique to a tea towel, card, doily, whatever. Fast and satisfying to make and adds the perfect homemade touch.
Hope you enjoyed and get the chance to give it a try!
