Have you seen the show COMEDIANS IN CARS GETTING COFFEE? If you are a fan of comedy, I highly recommend it! Jerry Seinfeld incorporated his love of cars by picking out a special car that represents the comedian he will be interviewing. He then picks the person up in the chosen car and takes them out for coffee and snacks while interviewing them.
I loved this show so much I decided to create a little tribute to it.
Originally I had intended on making this portrait on a white background fabric but once I saw this orange piece I couldn’t un-see it for some reason, so I went with it!
It was a remnant from a company that makes handbags. I never know what will jump out at me until the last minute sometimes and this piece really evolved as I was working on it.
My original idea was to create this on a white background and add ringed coffee stains plus a keychain. After deciding on the orange fabric, all that changed. I added a watercolor painting of mine to represent the coffee and I found a great fabric with the vintage cars so I cut out the cars and sewed them on. A much less subtle choice but I like the boldness of it. It’s less serious and more lighthearted, which felt more like comedy to me.
Jerry has a complicated eye color. What I am discovering is that most people have a combination of colors in their eyes. I chose this picture because I really liked his glasses, which I love to embroider. The stubble was kind of fun too.
This was so fun, it makes me want to go back and re-watch some episodes again!
If you are looking for a post holiday pick-me-up, give it a try!
Warmly,
Pam
