My next portrait subject is someone who came from such sparse beginnings and rose up to become one of the most beloved figures of our time.
I bet you can guess by the back of the embroidery who this might be. She is known worldwide by her first name, OPRAH!!!!!!
I am always so fascinated by people who have the foresight to see beyond the circumstances they are born into and reach the dizzying heights that she has soared to. What is that mindset? Are you born with that kind of knowing or is it something you learn? In any case, I admire it so much!
This was a fantastic portrait to work on and took me a long time to complete.
So many variations of color in her skin tone! Just gorgeous. I noticed that really dark hair has hints of blues and violets so I emphasized those where the reflected light hit.
It was tough to choose which portrait I wanted to make. Oprah has had so many different styles over the years. I chose this one because it most reminded me of the Oprah I have in my head from the days of watching her T.V. show after school.
Her hair took two days to complete. I added some sparkly thread to add additional shine.
I used more sparkly thread to complete the black ruffle in her dress. I always loved seeing her perfectly coiffed outfits. The picture of class and elegance.
I was challenged by her diamond earrings but I am pleased with the final product.
