A FUN AFTERNOON CRAFT; PAINTING YOUR NATURE FINDS

For those of you who are able to take walks around your neighborhoods or nearby trails, here is a fun afternoon craft I stumbled upon.

It all started because I follow Alexander McQueen on instagram and they have been offering a weekly creative challenge. Anyone can try it. It has been a fun exercise to think out the box and stretch out those creative muscles. The first week was to sketch a design from a series of rose themed outfits.

Here was my version. I decided to do an embroidered silhouette and watercolor.

The next challenge was to create a 3-d flower form something in your house.

I like to walk around the trails behind my house or just in the neighborhood. This time of year, all the dead growth from last year gets cleaned up to make room for all the spring blooms. This is the perfect time to collect some little treasures on your walk to bring home and create something.

This is a collection of milkweed pods I had in my house from my nature walk collection. When I heard the challenge, I immediately thought of these pods and how they look like flower petals.

I decided to add some watercolor paint and it really transformed these pods into elegant flower blooms.

If you find something dried out and light in color, it really is a cool effect.

They reminded me of tulips and rosebuds.

I love how this painted stem make the flowers look like a black and white photograph that has been colorized.

I made lots of shades of pinks and reds.

You can really see the color pop on a white background.

Not sure what I will use these for eventually but for now, they are blooming out of this little vase.

Anyway, if you are looking for something fun and engaging to do, there are so many online creative challenges. They spark new ideas and get your brain to think in new and exciting ways.

This not only gets you outside to hunt for nature treasures but is a delightful afternoon of crafting up something fun.

Hope you are all well and finding creative ways to pass the time.

Warmly,

Pam
